Media Advisory: May 13th, 2019 For Press Inquiries: 720.319.7337 coloradoNORML@gmail.com Colorado NORML endorses 2019 Denver Mayoral Candidate Jamie Giellis Denver, Colorado: Colorado NORML officially endorses Jamie Giellis for Denver Mayor in the runoff election taking place June 4th. Colorado NORML’s mission is to move public opinion sufficiently to legalize the responsible use of marijuana by adults, and to serve as an advocate for consumers to assure they have access to high quality marijuana that is safe, convenient and affordable. "Denver consumes cannabis and Mayor Hancock has a habit of ignoring the will of its voters,” said Colorado NORML executive director Ashley Weber. “He opposed Amendment 64 in 2012 and efforts towards legalization in 2005 and 2007 when he was on the Denver City Council. While it's promising to see him taking steps in cannabis reform with his low-level Expungement efforts; record sealing could only be obtained due to the existing law at the State level. Hancock increased Denver's special marijuana sales taxes from 3.5 to 5.5%. We need ensure the revenue made from Cannabis taxes are used progressive and economical."
“Jamie Giellis shares the ideologies cannabis brings to Denver with her work focused on policy and planning to help ease the impacts of growth that we've seen since cannabis legalization. Jamie moved to Denver, working on urban revitalization issues later starting her own business after concerns for how gentrification can cut out local neighborhoods by increased costs," said Ashley. “We believe Jamie will transparently uphold the will of the voters on cannabis policy.”
