We need immediate action against Senate Bill 25-076, a misguided piece of legislation that imposes overly restrictive marijuana regulations while failing to deliver true social equity reform. This bill does little to support the communities that need it most and instead enforces arbitrary limits on THC potency for adults under 25, stifles consumer choice, and imposes unnecessary regulations on cannabis products.
Rather than supporting this bill, we should be working to draft a separate, meaningful social equity bill that directly benefits impacted individuals and businesses. To do this, we must find legislators who will support and champion real social equity reform.
We urge you to send a letter to the Business, Labor, and Technology Committee opposing SB25-076. Let’s make it clear that we stand for responsible regulation that protects consumer access and promotes true equity—not legislation that hinders progress

Tony is a leader helping start businesses, philanthropic organizations, and helped organize three successful ballot initiatives for Denver residents.

Colorado NORML Officially Endorses Ean Tafoya for Denver City Mayor 

Denver, Colorado: The Colorado NORML organization officially endorses Ean Thomas Tafoya for Denver City Mayor in the April 4th, 2023 election. Colorado NORML’s mission is to move public opinion sufficiently to protect the responsible use of cannabis by adults and to serve as an advocate for consumers to assure they have access to high quality marijuana that is safe, convenient and affordable.  

Ean is a fourth-generation Denverite who has consistently fought for the accessibility of plant medicine. He was a part of the legislative process to legalize recreational cannabis 10 years ago and advocated from a pro-cannabis, pro-health and anti-carceral lens. Where will cannabis policy be 10 years in the future? As Mayor, Ean has stated he will continue to fight to make sure that communities most impacted by the war on drugs, particularly Black and Brown communities, will be centered in the policy conversation. This begins with tackling the barriers and restrictions that have kept them from benefiting from the cannabis industry, and advocating for reparations and expungements for those impacted by marijuana criminalization. He will also fight to protect medical marijuana access and support the industry in leading the way on sustainability. Ean has always fought for the working families of Denver and will continue to advocate for justice as Mayor.

Denver, Colorado: The Colorado NORML organization officially endorses Nick Campion for  Denver City Council - District 7 in the April 4th, 2023 election. Colorado NORML’s mission is to  move public opinion sufficiently to protect the responsible use of cannabis by adults, and to  serve as an advocate for consumers to assure they have access to high quality marijuana that  is safe, convenient, and affordable.  
Nick is a member of the Colorado Air National Guard as an f-16 aircraft maintainer, having moved here 8 years ago Nick sees a need to represent his district and is prepared to fill the District seat 7 listening to what it is the people are needing. On cannabis policies we can count on Nick for those consumers to be heard. 
”Running for his first term on Denver City Council Nick’s goal for cannabis is to reduce the bureaucracy to allow businesses to open for social cannabis consumption such as in bars. With social consumption lounges now able to start operation - our want is to see Denver become a hotspot for cannabis tourisms with social consumption facilities. Candi is a proud fifth-generation native of northeast Denver. Candi understands the importance  of tight-knit communities and stepping up for neighbors in need, understanding the lack of  equality within the cannabis community with her efforts extending to include responsible growth, people centered transportation, and will allow  decision – making back into the hands of residents.

Colorado NORML endorses Adam Frisch for Colorado Congressional District 3

 

Denver, Colorado: Colorado NORML is proud to officially endorse candidate Adam Frisch for Colorado House of Representatives Congressional District 3 in the Tuesday, November 8th, 2022 general election. 

 

NORML’s mission is to advance public opinion sufficiently to legalize the responsible use of marijuana by adults, and to serve as an advocate for consumers to assure they have access to high-quality marijuana that is safe, convenient, and affordable. We believe Adam Frisch is the candidate that will support and advocate for our goals. 

 

Adam is an experienced businessman that has worked at both international and local levels with a track record of 30+ years working in the community to solve problems like affordable housing and infrastructure. In his decade-long role as an Aspen City Council member, Mr. Frisch has gone on record advocating for the Cannabis Industry multiple times. 

 

For instance, in 2013, the council discussed limiting the number of recreational dispensaries allowed to operate in the busy tourist town. Mr. Frisch said because no such limits exist or were given to liquor licenses, he saw no reason for a different set of rules on the cannabis industry. In a meeting the following year, Adam spoke in support of allowing local “marijuana cafes” to operate as what we call ‘cannabis consumption lounges’ in the present day.

 

Colorado NORMLs goal is to achieve a policy under which responsible cannabis consumers are treated fairly in all aspects of their lives, on a daily basis. “Adam Frisch has shown his support of the Colorado Cannabis Industry over a decades long record of serving his community of Aspen. We are proud to endorse Adam Frisch for the District 3 Congressional election and we look forward to working with him on bills that support and promote our mission and goals,” says executive director of Colorado NORML, Ashley Weber.

Lamar: Opposing the Charter Amendment to Prohibit Marijuana in Lamar

 

Fellow Citizen of Lamar,

 

We are writing to urge our opposition and your NO Vote on an initiative petition that will be on Lamars November Ballot question 300 with ordinances to amend the home rule charter by prohibiting and penalizing marijuana related acts and business licensing/operation. Below is the proposed changes: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Section 15-2(c) “Prohibited Acts” of the ordinance reads as follows: It shall be unlawful for any person, persons, corporation, partnership, limited liability company, company association of persons, for profit or not for profit, knowingly, to possess, use, display, purchase, transport, transfer, store, warehouse, cultivate, sell, or distribute to another or to a consumer or any other person or entity, more than one ounce of marijuana for personal use.

Section 15-2(d) “Prohibited Acts” of the ordinance reads as follows: It shall be unlawful for any person OR persons under the age of twenty-one years knowingly, to possess, use, display, purchase, transport, transfer, store, warehouse, cultivate, sell or distribute to another OR to a consumer, or to any other person or entity, any amount of marijuana or marijuana accessories.

 

Amending this home charter rule is unconstitutional as Colorado voters in 2000 passed Article 18 Section 14 allows medical marijuana patients of 18 years or older, to possess, use, transport, store, or warehouse up to two ounces of marijuana for personal use if they also possess a state certified patient card. It also allows medical marijuana patients to cultivate no more than six marijuana plants, with three or fewer being mature, flowering plants that are producing a usable form of marijuana, on their premise, for personal use.

 

Section 15-2(c) of the ordinance to amend Lamar’s Home Rule Charter is in direct violation of this article of the Colorado Constitution, by limiting patients to no more than one ounce of marijuana products as well as prohibiting them from cultivating marijuana plants that produce no more than one ounce of marijuana.

Section 15-2(d) of the ordinance to amend Lamar’s Home Rule Charter is also in direct violation of this article of the Colorado Constitution, by prohibiting medical marijuana patients 18 years of age and older to possess, use, transport, store, warehouse, or cultivate any amount of marijuana.

 

Article 18 Section 16 Subsection 3 allows retail marijuana consumers to possess, grow, process, and transport no more than six marijuana plants, with three or fewer being mature, flowering plants, and possess the marijuana produced by the plants on the premises where the plants were grown, provided that the growing takes place in an enclosed, locked space, is not conducted openly or publicly, and is not made available for sale. Section 15-2(c) of the ordinance to amend Lamar’s Home Rule Charter is in direct violation of this article of the Colorado Constitution, by prohibiting retail marijuana consumers from possessing no more than one ounce of marijuana that they have cultivated on their own premise.

For these reasons I urge you to oppose and vote NO on Lamar's November ballot initiative to change cannabis home charter rules allowing for the prohibition of cannabis in this town.
