Colorado NORML endorses 2019 Denver Mayoral Candidate Kayvan Khalatbari
Denver, Colorado: The Colorado NORML organization TODAY officially endorses Kayvan Khalatbari for Denver Mayor in the 2019 election. Kayvan Khalatbari officially announced his candidacy for the 2019 Denver Mayoral election on Valentine’s Day in 2017. “I love this city. It’s given me everything I have in my career, friendships, love life and community organizing — Denver afforded me all of those opportunities. But the longer that I do business and [live] in this city, I realize the detriment this city is placing on the people that I care about. I can’t sit by and watch it anymore. I feel it’s incumbent on me as a business leader and community organizer to engage people and give them hope that they can make a difference.” said Khalatbari.
As an advocate making an effort to address social and criminal injustice, Kayvan’s platform is aimed at improving conditions for the homeless, increasing police accountability, and establishing Denver as a kind of sanctuary. As founder and owner of several successful businesses and active volunteer in over a dozen political and nonprofit ventures ranging from aims of ending the failed war on drugs, to combatting increasing homelessness, Kayvan has proven himself as an entrepreneur, advocate, and leader.
Khalatbari has shown two strong quarters of fundraising and out raised the incumbent mayor in the first quarter of 2018. Commenting on the resources he will need to win, Kayvan said, “We’re going to be more effective with the money we do raise. We're going to be on the ground and in the community, which is not something the mayor can claim. He seems to be hiding himself pretty well these days" said Khalatbari.
“Kayvan is a leader in business and in the community. His work in cannabis reform is only one part of his passion and advocacy for issues that matter. Our organization and it’s board is proud to support him and endorse his campaign for Denver Mayor,” said CONORML Executive Director Ashley Weber.
